Books to Read Before 2017 Ends

Home renovations, house sales, building a new home, ill family members, the list goes on. This has been our spring and summer. Let’s just say it has been physically, financially and mentally draining. With the chaos of life, it has been hard to be able to take a moment for ourselves to truly relax. Reading has always been a great way for me to unwind from life’s daily demands. Whether it be skimming through articles or news online, or picking up a book or magazine, it sure does the trick.

Here are some books below I recommend to help you unwind and take a mental break from your wonderfully, complicated reality.

Pablo Escobar: My Fatherby Juan Pablo Escobar

This international bestseller is written by the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar’s son, Juan Pablo Escobar. This book gives an intimate glimpse into the home he grew up in and lessons he learned from his father. It gives first hand insight to the consequences of living a life of crime. Seeking forgiveness from families in which his father brutalized is a central goal for Juan to achieve peace within himself and the community.

Remembering Diana: A Life in Photographyby Tina Brown / Nat Geo

Princess Diana’s life in 100 beautiful and iconic photographs. Diana captivated the world with her beauty and grace. As a society shocked by her tragic death, we remember her and her story, one we will never forget.

What Happenedby Hillary Rodham Clinton

What Happened is probably the most anticipated book of the season. It gives a detailed look through the eyes of Hillary, a turbulent campaign and a heartbreaking defeat. Whether you love her, or you don’t, she is a strong and intellectual woman who has had a great impact on our generation.

Enduranceby Scott Kelly

I followed Scott Kelly’s Year in Space closely and I was so excited to find out he was writing a memoir. If you are looking for where the future is heading, then all you have to do is look up. Scott Kelly spent a record-breaking year in space on the International Space Station. This is an intimate account of his experience, how he got there and where he thinks the future needs to be looking towards.

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma

This book will shape the way you perceive life and success. It has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. It follows a hot shot lawyer who has pushed himself too far, mentally and physically. After suffering a heart attack, he ventures to find a higher meaning to life, purpose and peace. You won’t be able to put this book down!

Talking As Fast As I Canby Lauren Graham

For all my fellow Gilmore Girls fans out there. Graham gives you a behind the scenes look into the world of the Gilmore Girls and Lorelai. She reflects on love, life and what is like to be a woman in Hollywood.
